Task 4 – Dynamics of suspended particulate matter

Objective
Benthic Nephloid Layer (BNL) characterization and evolution during summer. Establish relation between BNL and present shelf cysts beds (water-sediment interface).

Expected results
Characterization of BNL thickness and suspended cyst abundance. Understand the possible relation between resuspension periods and HAB blooms and identify the main paths of cyst dispersion.

Team
IH will be responsible for acoustic backscattering validation and calibration and BNL characterization in terms of sediment particles concentration and dispersion. MARE will coordinate the dinoflagellate cyst work.
